There are disagreements inside the CSTO (video)
“The CSTO Security Council session held in Yerevan showed that there are serious problems inside that structure, and, more likely, adjournment of appointing Secretary General of the CSTO was conditioned by those problems,” said political expert Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan at the press conference. “There are inner disagreements between countries in different regions and their objectives and problems differ,” he noted, adding that, more likely, after Belarus’s assuming the Chairmanship of the CSTO, those disagreements will deepen. According to the words of the political expert, the last statement of the CSTO included such assessments, which existed before April War, but the situation changed after April. Melik-Shahnazaryan thinks that Armenia toughened its stance connected with Karabakh issue, “In any case, territorial concessions are out of question, there are clear conditions put before Azerbaijan, and only after their fulfillment it will be possible to resume negotiations,” he said. The speaker also touched upon the adoption of the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide by the French Senate, noting that in that way France is trying to weaken the positions of Turkey in the East and South Caucasus, “Official Paris understands that the Genocide is the factor, which enables it to restrict Turkey and ban Turkey’s membership in the EU,” said the political expert.
