Situation will continue to deteriorate further in Aleppo (video)
Turkey and Russia are trying to restore the relations that existed before the downing of a Russian helicopter, Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Oriental Studies at the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, said on Tuesday speaking about the meeting of Putin and Erdogan. He says the two leaders discussed economic, military and political issues. “Among other issues, the sides agreed to continue negotiations on the construction of a power plant. As a result, Russia agreed to train about 200 specialists in this field. We can say that Turkey is becoming a nuclear power,” Ruben Safrastyan said adding that Putin and Erdogan reached an agreement on gas prices and Russia made some concessions although there are no reports about it. During the meeting, the Russian and Turkish leaders also discussed the conflict in Syria. “The parties agreed to continue efforts and provide humanitarian aid to the population in Aleppo. This means that Turkey does not join the West which is criticizing Russia’s policy in Syria. They also discussed the activities of the Turkish armed forces. As you know, Turkey has occupied a portion of northern Syria. This meeting and discussion show that Russia does not criticize or condemn Turkey’s action,” Mr. Safrastyan said. He added that the sides had agreed to conduct negotiations between general staffs and defense ministries of the two countries, which shows that ‘the parties are trying to create a basis for joint actions in Syria.’ What effect will the meeting have on Armenians in Aleppo? "The UN says the situation could deteriorate further in Aleppo in the next two months, and it is important that we ensure the safe movement of our compatriots,” Mr. Safrastyan said in conclusion.
