Armenian lawmakers cannot solve problems in Georgia (video)
Parliamentary elections held in Georgia on October 8 showed that this country has taken a democratic path, said today the experts on Georgian studies Alik Eroyants and Joni Melikyan during the interview with journalists. According to Joni Melikyan , there were some violations during the elections registered both by the international observer groups and by the CEC of Georgia but they are not the violations to take under the doubt that the elections were fair and transparent. Alik Eroyants added that after these elections Georgian Parliament will have three Armenian deputies. Though, he thinks that Armenian deputies will not have authority to solve any problems there: “Mostly the MPs elected by the majoritarian can have more authority for solving problems, the chances in the party system are less. For example, there are some problems connected with the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, etc.” What will be the impact of these elections on Armenian-Georgian relations? According to Joni Melikyan, they will have an indirect impact: “As ‘Georgian dream’, we can say, has got rid of the pro-European forces, so it will be freer in the relations with Russia, and it, in its turn, will have positive impact on Armenian-Georgian relations.”
