“We will struggle for every inch of land” (video)
Recently there hasn’t been tension on the Line of Contact, noted acting Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan in a briefing with journalists at Armenian State University of Economics, touching upon the fact of today’s ceasefire violation on the Line of Contact between the opposing forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan, during which more than 1500 shots were fired towards the Armenian positions from different caliber rifle weapons, including DShK heavy machine gun. “Little more, little less, but the agreement is held; no heavy artillery was used, shots were fired only from firearm weapons. The NKR DA frontier units are carefully follow the situation and initiate preventive measures if necessary.” As for the meeting between the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs in Moscow, Mr Ohanyan noted that relevant structures are responsible for the RA diplomacy, which are deeply aware of the whole process of negotiations and meetings, “We expect that our option will be implemented, so that the NK conflict issue is solved only under peaceful political conditions, within the frames of dialogue, mutual agreements and what’s the most important- in the atmosphere of trust.” In reply to the question about handover of lands, Seyran Ohanyan said that in this situation, when it is difficult to find a common language with the adversary after Four-day War, the amount of provocations leads to the rejection of formation of atmosphere of trust by the adversary on the Line of Contact, “It grants an opportunity to tell that without formation of atmosphere of trust, we cannot talk about mutual agreements. If something happens to Artsakh, we will struggle for every inch of land.” Acting Defense Minister also touched upon the resignation of Hovik Abrahamnyan and the news that he may be nominated as a Deputy Prime Minister, “We all know how government is formed, so wait for the formulation. As for the resignation of Hovik Abrahamyan, every person is responsible for his activities, and Hovik Abrahamyan talked about everything in his speech.” In reply to the question whether Karen Karapetyan will be able to fully handle the problems in the RA and govern the economy, when he was absent from the republic for a long period, Seyran Ohanyan answered, “The authorities can see better the capabilities of each person. He isn’t a new person for our reality; he has spent most of his life in Armenia, and I think that he will put all his efforts to head our government.”
