Armenia paid European Court of Human Rights € 335 000 since 2015
On Friday, Minister-Chief of Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan presented statistical data about the sum of money Armenia has paid to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in recent years in compensation for certain forms of damage. In 2014, the ECtHR issued four judgments against Armenia , obliging the country to pay €166 000. In 2015, the Court issued eight judgments obligating Armenia to pay €86 000. In 2016, there were again eight judgments and we had to pay €83 000. We remind that during the previous Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan instructed the relevant agencies to clarify how much money had been paid to the ECtHR over the past years. Today, Mr. Abrahamyan wanted to know the reasons for the ECtHR decisions. “I think the reasons are clear and are resulted by errors in our judicial system. Of course, this might happen in all countries, but when a country exhausts all means to correct mistakes, people turn to the European Court of Human Rights,” Mr. Harutyunyan said in reply.
