Karimov is 'in critical condition' - Uzbek Cabinet
Uzbek leader Islam Karimov, who has dominated the Central Asian nation for over 25 years, is ‘in critical condition’ after his health worsened "sharply" days after he suffered a stroke, Uzbekistan's Cabinet said on Friday. “Dear compatriots, it is with a very heavy heart that we inform you that yesterday the condition of our president deteriorated sharply and, according to doctors, it is evaluated as critical," the cabinet said in a statement. This was the first official statement on Karimov's health since the cabinet announced on August 28 that he had been hospitalized. His daughter said on Instagram the next day that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage. "My father was hospitalized after suffering a cerebral haemorrhage on Saturday morning, and is now receiving treatment in an intensive care unit," Lola Karimova-Tillyaeva wrote on Instagram. Earlier, media reports claimed that Karimov had passed away.
