Ten days have passed after Artik flood, but it is still early to give final assessment of material losses, as the activities are still underway. Mayor of Artik Arsen Abrahamyan told the journalists. According to the decision of the Government, money has been allocated for cleaning the gullies, as well as support to the residents of the houses damaged in the flood. “They are residents from 12 houses, whose living area, sowing lands were damaged and who sustained livestock losses,” he said. Most of the residents complain of the amount of money allocated. Mayor doesn’t share their viewpoint, “I think that money is enough for the restoration of the flats, and it is another matter if the residents are waiting for new flats.” In reply to the remark that it doesn’t only relate to the walls of the houses and furniture, but means of living stored in the cellars, Arsen Abrahamyan replied. “It is difficult to believe that someone stores 5 or 10 kg sugar or flour in his cellar. It isn’t a secret that one can understand how that person lives on entering his house. As for the property there have been fantastic statements, for example that a heap of gold was lost.” He added that on the eve of winter no family will be left without sugar and furniture in Artik. As for the reason of flood, Mayor has data that the reason was the waste collected in ravine outside urban sector of Artik. “For about 60 years, the waste of nearby stone pit has been filled in this ravine and the unprecedented amount of precipitations brought that waste into the city. The gully wasn’t able to carry that amount. The gullies were cleaned every year,” noted Mr Abrahamyan, not saying who is responsible for the waste, as it has long history and it is impossible to find those responsible for it. According to his words, in 2013 they applied to the Ministry of Nature Protection for cleaning the territory, the project was drafted but wasn’t implemented due to short of money.
