During the debates on the new Electoral Code in the Armenian Parliament, Mikael Melkumyan, a lawmaker of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), asked Minister-Chief of Government Staff Davit Harutyunyan why people in Armenia cannot change the authorities through elections if they are displeased with them. “I do not know why this opposition stance deletes memories from your brain, but I want to remind you that there was time when you were part of that power,” Davit Harutyunyan said. He added that he did not want to speak about important political topics while they were discussing the EC, moreover, he did not want to speak about worthless themes. Mr Melkumyan began to speak from his seat saying things that angered Davit Harutyunyan. “Honestly speaking, I did not expect you to take everything so emotionally. I do not find it appropriate to respond to all your questions because I consider them to be irrelevant. “Can you explain to our citizens how it happens that the same political force and the same people stay in power in Armenia despite the ongoing emigration, rampant poverty and unemployment?” said Zaruhi Postanjyan, a lawmaker of the Heritage faction. “People are probably aware of everything that you are saying but they get frustrated when they hear your speeches and they realize that they had better vote for the authorities,” Mr Harutyunyan said. “You are mistaken. People do not cast their votes for you because as Serzh Sargsyan once said you will score as many votes as you want. You are only engaged in scoring,” said Zaruhi Postanjyan. “I can only respond to men in the same way. I do not want to respond to you. Nor am I going to apologize to you,” said Davit Harutyunyan.
