Every month the national debt of Armenia is increasing by USD 40-50 million and already in April that index will be equal to USD 5 billion 252 million. The index of indirect foreign investments in Armenia is also negative; its volume has decreased by AMD 58 billion in the first three months of this year. In spite of these data, the Government declares 106 % growth in economic activity index. Economist Vilen Khachatryan thinks that it has its explanation. “Imports are reduced, investments are reduced, construction activities are reduced and we have 106 % economic growth. I call it pre-electoral macroeconomic indexes.” While touching upon the national debt, the economist notes that borrowing money means that the state has to borrow those sums, “The budget isn’t performed, for example, in 2015 the budget deficit was twice more, 114 billion had been planned, but at the end of the year it was 232 billion, and for ensuring it they had to borrow money.” He says that these figures are an alarm for even worse situation in the future. The economist notes the data of the World Bank, according to which in 2020 the national debt of Armenia will reach 60 % of the GDP.
