Residents of Goght community blocked the road (video)
Residents of Goght community in Armenia’s Kotayk province have blocked the main road since early morning, demanding to cancel a controversial irrigation project under which the waters of the Geghardalich will be sent to other communities of Kotayk province. Talking to A1+, Vahram Sedrakyan, a resident of Goght village, said they also took to the street on May 21, when the Prime Minister [Hovik Abrahamyan] visited Garni, but Abrahamyan said he was unaware of the project. Talking to angered villagers, Karapet Guloyan, Governor of Kotayk province, promised on the same day to stop the construction and organize discussions on the issue. “However, no discussion has been organized until now, and we do not believe their empty promises anymore,” Mr Sedrakyan said. The road is blocked at the moment, with villagers waiting for a response from officials.
