An Armenian soldier was reportedly killed by Azeri troops at the frontlines on April 1. The Nagorno-Karabakh Defence Ministry says 20-year-old Vladimir Melkonyan was fatally wounded at around 12:20 while on duty in a military unit stationed in the northern direction of the Line of Contact with Azerbaijan. An investigation is underway to find out the details of this incident. The NKR Defence Ministry offers its condolences to the family, relatives and fellow servicemen of the soldier. Earlier on Friday, military authorities in Stepanakert reported increased tensions along the Line of Contact in the period from Thursday to early Friday morning, with Azerbaijani forces firing up to 2700 shots from weapons of different calibers at Armenian positions. The Ministry said its army’s vanguard units were taking retaliatory actions to suppress Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions.
