Armenian Revival Party proposes new format of discussions
The Armenian Revival Party has issued a statement a new format of discussions of the draft Electoral Code. “It's no secret that the primary condition for holding transparent and fair elections is the political will of the authorities. At the same time, the amendment of the Electoral Code is essential and imperative for making the process fully transparent. In the past, discussions over amendments to the Electoral Code were accompanied by debates between opposition and pro-government forces. It is extremely strange that our people were introduced to the draft Electoral Code after its English version appeared on the Venice Commission’s website—a move that is unacceptable for us. To involve all interested parties in the process, it is necessary that the government, opposition, civil society, media and expert community express their views and approaches. It is equally necessary to take into consideration the opinion of international organizations. That is why we suggest involving equal number of representatives from the opposition, government and civil society in the discussions.”
