HAK considers Gaspari's detention gross violation of human rights
The Armenian National Congress (HAK) condemns the detention of civic activist Vardges Gaspari, considering it gross violation of human rights. “Civil activist Vardges Gaspari, who is well known for his uncompromising stance on each and every illegality, has been in custody for several days now on unfounded charges. Clearly Gaspari was arrested by the order of authorities against whom he has been fighting. There are reports that he is being subjected to torture and violence in custody. Moreover, following the worst traditions of the Soviet-era penitentiaries and applying the practice of incarceration of political dissidents, Gaspari was even taken to a mental hospital. We demand yet another illegal action of the authorities and demand to immediately release Vardges Gaspari,” HAK said in a statement.
