Citizens gather outside Prosecutor General's Office in support of arrested activist (video)
A group of citizens are holding an action near the Office of General Prosecutor in Yerevan in support of the jailed civil activist Gevorg Safaryan. Safaryan was arrested during clashes between police and demonstrators at Liberty Square on New Year’s Eve. Safaryan is charged under Criminal Code Article 316.1 (violence against a government representative) and was placed [by court] under two-month custody. According to law enforcement agencies, Safaryan committed violence against police officer Gegham Khachatryan. New Armenia group members consider the charges unfounded.
