National Assembly receives Ombudsman's resignation letter

Armenia’s National Assembly has received the resignation letter of the Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan, NA Spokesman Arsen Babayan said in a Facebook post. “Pursuant Article 6 of the RA Law on Human Rights Defender, the responsibilities of the Ombudsman are terminated if he submits another resignation no later than ten days after submitting the first resignation. In case the resignation request is repeated, the Speaker of the National Assembly informs lawmakers about the termination of the Ombudsman’s responsibilities during the upcoming session,” Arsen Babayan said. Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan tendered his resignation on Tuesday, January 12. Through his spokesperson, Andreasyan expressed his gratitude to all colleagues for their joint work and expressed hope that human rights protection will continue to remain a priority for the government and society. Karen Andreasyan was appointed to the post in March 2011.
