HAK to appeal to Prosecutor's Office
Senior members of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) Levon Zurabyan and Vladimir Karapetyan met on December 23 with Chargé d'Affaires of the Delegation of the European Union, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece and Romania in Yerevan. Mr Zurabyan presented the results of the December 6 constitutional referendum saying the entire process was rigged and the results do not express the will of Armenian people. The parties also talked about the entire process of the referendum, including large-scale violations, ballot stuffing, widespread fraud during the count and recount of the votes, opposition’s bid to dispute the referendum outcome in the Constitutional Court, etc. It was noted that the HAK is going to appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office to open criminal proceeding in at least 100 cases. Levon Zurabyan and Vladimir Karapetyan also presented HAK’s further steps towards the restoration of democracy in Armenia. The parties emphasized the need for effective steps towards democratization [in Armenia], including the adoption of the Electoral Code, which will contribute to the conduct of free and fair elections and restoration of public confidence in electoral processes.
