Azerbaijan fires from tank: One Armenian serviceman killed in attack
A contract serviceman of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army was killed in an unprecedented ceasefire violation along the Line of Contact between Azerbaijani and Karabakh armed forces on Tuesday night, the NKR Defense Army reports. Garik Avanesyan, 24, was fatally wounded in a gun attack targeted against an eastern military unit of the Karabakh Defense Army. According to the report, the situation remains tense at the frontline. For the first time, Azerbaijan used a tank to fire mortar shells at the NKR Defense Army’s military positions stationed in the southern direction of the frontline. The Defense Army reports that Azerbaijani troops violated the ceasefire over 180 times on the night of December 9. Apart from the tanks, the adversary also fired around 1,500 times from different arms, including mine- and grenade launchers of different calibers and the rocket propelled howitzer (TR-107). Investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the deadly incident. The NKR Defense Ministry shares the grief of the heavy loss and extends condolences to the family, friends and fellow servicemen of the killed soldier. The Defense Ministry states that Azerbaijan’s destabilizing actions will not go unpunished, and the consequences will be dire and irreversible.
