Artak Zeynalyan: Armenia has experienced a backsliding of its human rights situation (video)
In 2015, Armenia has experienced a backsliding of its human rights situation, a representative of the Rule of Law NGO told media on December 9. He pointed to several instances of human rights violations observed in the December 6 constitutional referendum. “The December 6 referendum was not free and fair: the results did not fully reflect the opinion of voters. At many polling stations, observers were not allowed to work properly, they were unable to know the results and protocols, therefore the results at these polling stations should be annulled,” Artak Zeynalyan said today. The human rights activist says along with the reported cases of violations of human rights, they also observed violations of citizens’ right to freedom of expression and peaceful conduct of the referendum. “The fact that the participants of a sit-in at Liberty Square were disallowed to erect a tent at Liberty Square is also violation of human rights. Another rough violation of human rights is the violence used against participants of electricity price hike protests, and the lack of adequate investigation,” he added.
