It is enough to change a single line, says lawyer
Support A1+!Lawyer Hayk Alumyan is not happy with the new Constitution, which says the judges of the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation shall be elected by the National Assembly. Under the new Constitution, we shall not have fully independent judges. Now the judges will depend on the political force that will be in power at that moment,” the lawyer said. Mr Alumyan says the mechanism of appointing judicial officials is not democratic since it does not reflect the will of people. “We have one Cassation Court which is doomed to inaction. It is enough to change a single line and say it is the Appellate Court that ensures the uniform application of the law and the Cassation Court will be closed down,” he added. Corruption is not new in the judiciary. Republican lawmaker Hovhannes Sahakyan refrains from speaking on the issue though he believes that they can help can help cut down on corruption.
