Do you want us to delete the word “Yes” from dictionaries (video)
At the beginning of today’s parliament sitting, opposition lawmaker Levon Zurabyan addressed a question to National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan. The head of the parliamentary faction of the opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) said in many communities of the country, Republicans urge teachers and parents of schoolchildren to say “Yes” to the new Constitution during the December 6 referendum. “As you have announced that you attach importance to the legitimacy of the referendum, don’t you think that you should demand explanations from the Ministry of Education of Science on behalf of the National Assembly? This is the second time Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan has abused his official powers, considering the fact that he runs a program on Armenia’s Public Television which violates the principle of equality and impartiality in the referendum campaign,” Mr Zurabyan said. In reply, Mr Sahakyan said he would keep his promise and would not switch off Zurabyan’s microphone. “But you are saying wrong things. Let me remind you that the same things happened when you were in power. Anywway, we shall check the information and it turns out to be correct we shall discuss it seriously.” Zurabyan said teachers are to be called to liability as well for obstructing electoral processes. “It is Ashotyan who is pushing them [teachers] into crime. You also bear responsibility for the crimes committed during the years when we were in power.” “I know what humor and satire are and I imagine their effect. Anyway, I am not going to answer you instead of Armen Ashotyan. You do not want teachers and officials to be involved in the campaign. Do you see only opposition there? This is a provocative statement. What do you think teachers are violating? Or do you want us to delete the word “Yes” from dictionaries? and leave only "No" there?” said Mr Sahakyan.
