CEC rejects initiative group's bid to observe Dec. 6 referendum in Armenia
The Central Election Commission yesterday rejected the application of the Civil Headquarters initiative group to carry out election observation during the December 6 referendum. “The Civil Headquarters finds that the CEC made an unjustified, biased and prejudiced decision. “The CEC said it decided to reject the application as the statutory objectives of the Civil Headquarters do not include issues of democracy and human rights protection but the Charter (Clause 2.1) of the Civil Headquarters says it aims to promote establishment of civil and legal society. The right to participate in electoral processes constitutes an important part of civil rights; therefore we cannot understand the reason for rejection. Anyway, we are going to cooperate with other observation missions and media in an attempt to ensure legitimacy of the election,"
