The economic bloc of the constitutional changes is in tune with the current challenges faced by Armenia, says economist Tatul Manaseryan. Compared with the current Constitution, the draft document has numerous provisions ensuring progress. There are provisions that arouse criticism, and they concern not only the economic but also the political sphere,” he said. The economist says the sections of the amended document referring the Diaspora and the education sector need to be edited. "The Constitution stipulates that the minimum wage should not be less than the minimum subsistence basket,” he stressed. At the same time, Mr Manaseryan says it is a bit early for Armenia to transfer to a parliamentary system of government. Anyway, he welcomes the amended constitution. Vazgen Safaryan, Chairman of the Union of Domestic Commodity Producers NGO, considers the parliamentary system to be more acceptable and democratic for a country like Armenia. “The constitutional reform is a step forward which will allow us to see fewer people with nicknames in parliament,” he said. Anyway, he agrees that certain provisions need to be reviewed and changed. In particular, he would like the state to participate in the organization of social life.
