Parliamentary elections in Turkey and Azerbaijan, constitutional referendum in Armenia may worsen situation around Karabakh (video)
The parliamentary elections in Turkey and Azerbaijan slated for November 1 and the constitutional referendum in Armenia scheduled for December 6 may worsen the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh. In order to silence the opposition in their country the Azerbaijani authorities spare no effort in order to deter inner processes,” says political analyst Stepan Safaryan. Similarly, Turkey which is facing the threat of broad civil unrest will try to activate in the region conditioned by the actions of Russia. “Russia has been trying to show everyone that he has the final word here and naturally, Turkey did not like it. Let me cite the recent case when Turkey made a great uproar following a Russian plane's incursion into its airspace. It is natural that in the given situation each country will consider the issue of its interference,” says political analyst Manvel Sargsyan. OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs are scheduled to arrive in the region next week. In this regard, Mr Safaryan says, “Minsk Group is a tool that can be used by Armenia to maintain the fragile peace in the region. Armenia should not allow dissolution or weakening of the Minsk Group.” Manvel Sargsyan thinks that Armenia should always rely on its forces in the case of any change in the situation. Armenia should pursue a clearer policy: the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) clearly said that we should rely on ourselves.
