Czech Ambassador views EEC as an obstacle to economic development (video)
The Czech Ambassador to Armenia advises his countrymen to make investments only in the agricultural sector of Armenia. “Armenia's authorities have much to do to improve the business environment in the country,” says Petr Mikiska. “Agriculture is relatively favourable for investments, I would not recommend investing in other sectors, particularly in energy sectors and food processing industry,” he said. The Czech diplomat says the level of bilateral economic ties yields to high-level political relations between the two countries under question. “When importing goods from Europe, we have to pay high import duties. The regime is common in the Eurasian economic community and it impedes out export trade with Armenia,” Petr Mikiska said. “Europeans continue to assist Armenia despite its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union,” the ambassador said adding that Armenia has favourable conditions for the facilitation of trade with the European Union. “Armenia has been granted GSP and GSP +favourable trade regime, and this has made the access of Armenian goods to EU market exempt from import duty,” added. Dozens of businessmen from Armenia and the Czech Republic have participated in a Yerevan-hosted business seminar organized by the Czech Embassy with the aim of boosting business contacts between the two countries.
