“Mayrapetyan is not the owner of Yerevan”: protest action (video)
About 18 thousand signatures for the preservation of Yerevan Kentron’s (downtown Yerevan) Teryan 23, 25 and Lalayants 37 buildings. The area was recognized an eminent domain still in 2007. The residents didn’t expect that the residents would take part in the collection of signatures so actively.
They are sure that only Serzh Sargsyan can solve their problem, but the issue is presented to him in another way.
Resident Vardan Geravetyan suggests, “Preserve Teryan 23, 25 and Lalayants 37 buildings as historic buildings, organize project of facing and renovation, hold public and architectural discussion.”
In order to voice their problems and the collected signatures, about two dozens of residents marched to the Presidential Palace. They were going also to complain about the purchaser of the area- Samvel Mayrapetyan, “Mayrapetyan is not the owner of Yerevan, he is not to decide what and where must be built. If he wants to build a city, which is suitable for him, thank God, there are many territories outside the city like Vahagni district, let him build Mayrapetavan,” says resident Vardan Gabrielyan.
The residents are alarming- money proposed by Samvel Mayrapetyan is three times less than the real cost of their flats. And the courts show an arbitrary approach and make decisions on eviction from the flats without lawyers.
The residents presented the collected signatures and the suggestion to the Presidential Palace and were informed that the issue will be examined.
