Turkish diplomat: Armenia and Turkey can normalize relations (video)
Armenia and Turkey can normalize relations for the sake of future days, says Unal Cevikoz, a Turkish diplomat, a former ambassador of Turkey to the UK. He says the world is changing, and conflicts have no place in today's world. “I believe in the future of our generations, I believe in the progress of our relations,” the Turkish diplomat stressed. Cevikoz says the new generations in both countries [Armenia and Turkey] have not seen a war and do not want a war. “I have become a grandfather and when I look at my granddaughter I realize that this little girl deserves a better future,” he said. The diplomat says the talks over Armenian-Turkish relations did not produce success because the sides were trying to act secretly, while in today’s world one should act openly to have success. “We can really succeed if we manage to convince our nations, if we manage to explain to them that our countries will only benefit from the normalization of relations,” Unal Cevikoz said. Speaking about the Armenian-Turkish Protocols, the Turkish diplomat said they can be submitted to the country’s legislature after the formation of a new parliament in Turkey. Cevikoz says the future opens wide opportunities for the two counties and they should seize the opportunities for the sake of future generations by bettering Armenian-Turkish relations.
