The Mountain Dance sculpture in Yerevan, which is believed to be on the verge of destruction, is being restored now. “As we are working in the street, we do not have an opportunity to use clay, therefore we use plaster. Then we shall have the statue coated with copper,” sculptor Tigran Arzumanyan told A1+. For three years, the sculptor had been warning that the sculpture placed in front of the Dvin Hotel was in a horrible state. The Mountain Dance was placed in 1982 and needed urgent restoration. Today, it is on the outskirts of the city where it is being restored with the money provided by the hotel owner. The sculptor says about 60 percent of the sculpture is robbed or destroyed. Mr Arzumanyan had worked on the sculpture for 11 years and said he wanted to restore and repair it himself. About 850 kg copper is needed for the sculpture which is supposed to be returned to its former place after restoration. The work will be completed before November.
