Expert: Iran likely to continue Meghri hydropower plant project (video)
The agreement signed between the six world powers and Iran was a historic event, a once-in-a-century event, says Gohar Iskandaryan, an expert in Iranian studies. She considers the deal to be a magnification of a strong political will. “The leaders gathered to solve the issue and they did so,” she said. The expert says both sides made compromises during the talks and the peace won. “During the talks it became known that the sanctions on Iran will be lifted from the moment when inspectors of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) prove that Iran is fulfilling its commitments and obligations, but it should be done within 65 days. However, if Iran fails to perform its commitments within 65 days, the sanctions will again be in force,” she said. The expert in Iranian studies says that the agreement will have an impact on Armenia. Our neighbouring country [Iran] will implement many suspended or terminated projects, including the completion of the Meghri hydropower plant, which was stopped because of lack of finances.
