Aram Simonyan re-elected Yerevan State University Rector

The regular session of the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University was held today, ysu.am reports. The session was attended by the President of the Republic of Armenia, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yerevan State University Serzh Sargsyan. The agenda included the issue of the elections of the rector of “Yerevan State University” Foundation. We should note that one application had been submitted by the Corresponding Member of NAS RA, Doctor of History, Professor Aram Simonyan (by self-nomination). Acting Rector of Yerevan State University Aram Simonyan presented YSU development program, briefly spoke about the existing problems that hinder the development of the university. “The ongoing reforms at YSU and the policy applied in these areas should be necessarily linked with the principles of the university autonomy, academic freedom and social equality, which requires the active involvement of students, lecturers, administration, employers, government and other parties in this process,” - mentioned Aram Simonyan. Via closed and secret voting YSU Acting Rector Aram Simonyan was unanimously elected the rector of Yerevan State University. The current issues on the agenda were the following ones: opening of the Chair of Drug Technology and Economics at the Faculty of Pharmacology and Chemistry, opening of the Centre for Chinese Language and Culture at the Faculty of International Relations, opening of the LLC “Student Services”, selection of the auditor for the financial and maintenance activities of “Yerevan State University” Foundation in 2015, the write-off of the unusable property owned by the foundation, adoption of the order on the alienation and termination, as well as the approval of the abbreviated version of the report on the activities of the foundation in 2014 (the full version is available on the official website azdarar.am). All the issues were discussed and received approval by the members of the Board of Trustees, the website says.
