An argument broke out at the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) today during the discussing of the bids submitted by five major power generating companies that seek to increase the consumer electricity tariffs in Armenia. After Hovhannes Margaryan, a lawmaker representing the Country of Law Party (OEK) began addressing questions to the PSRC members, PSRC Chairman Robert Nazaryan interrupted him saying, “You are not participating in a sitting of the National Assembly.” “Mr Nazaryan, you are to present the interests of ordinary citizens and not those of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA). [ENA Director] Bibin ignored all of us and did not participate in NA hearings. I just wanted to ask: ENA takes electricity at 21 drams. Everyone toils at it but ENA only wastes money and increases electricity tariffs. Moreover, Bibin labels PSRC activities as abnormal. How can you rely on the figures presented by a sharper? We are speaking about 22 billion drams and not 22 drams… What about the luxury cars that the company purchased? Mr Nazaryan, I understand that it is hurting your heart, too,” Mr Margaryan said. “We are equally concerned, Mr Margaryan,” Robert Nazaryan said in reply. The PSRC chairman also expressed his indignation with ENA Director Yevgeny Bibin. “It is the first time that a licensed company does not attend the discussion of its application. This is an unprecedented phenomenon. I do not want to say anything as my words might be gentle and my expressions - indecent. He [Bibin] is using the language of blackmail and we shall give him an adequate response,” Mr Nazaryan said.
