Armenian Ombudsman receives parents of killed soldiers
Armenia’s Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan received on Friday the parents of killed servicemen. Mr Andreasyan confirmed that their dissatisfaction with the investigations into their sons’ deaths. He also re-affirmed his conviction that an interparty parliamentary commission should be set up to deal with the problem. The commission will observe the requirements of the criminal procedure and review each criminal case separately, presenting its recommendations and proposals to the public and relevant authorities in order to break an impasse. Unfortunately, individual political forces and government officials have not yet accepted a relevant proposal, which caused such undesirable consequences. During the meeting, the sides also discussed the issue of peaceful actions organized by parents of killed soldiers and their concerns. The parents said they had received the Ombudsman’s resolution on violation of human rights on February 11, 2015, when police used force against them. The Ombudsman found that the police actions were inadequate and violated the rights of parents of fallen soldiers. Mr Andreasyan also reaffirmed his readiness to continue to assist the parents in defending all their constitutional rights.
