The compensation promised by the government to about 105 000 vulnerable families after the rise in electricity prices is nothing but nonsense, says economist Bagrat Asatryan. He says the annual increase in the price of electricity leads to social polarization. According to official data, the poverty rate in Armenia is 32 percent. According to the National Statistical Service, the subsistence minimum per capita constituted AMD 48502,1 in the first quarter of 2015, based on the results of a survey held in 7872 households. The minimum monthly salary is AMD 50,000. It is evident that the minimum consumer basket and salaries are totally incomparable. A question arises here: how much money do our citizens need to cover their minimum needs?
