“Armenians’ involvement in Turkish parliament doesn’t mean anything” (video)
According to Turkologist Mushegh Khudaverdyan, yesterday’s parliamentary elections held in Turkey differ from previous elections. “By collecting 46-47 % votes, Justice and Development Party would be able to form a single-party government in the parliament, which would strengthen the positions of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. But it didn’t happen and it was a big failure for the sector supporting Erdogan,” noted Mushegh Khudaverdyan. The latter notes in this context that the entrance of Kurdish party to Turkish parliament has been a big success, as it is a big counterbalance to Turkish parties with its activities and ideas. “It is a very interesting factor for the Armenian side that Kurdish party leader Selahattin Demirtas has voiced for many times that Turkey must face its history, recognize the Armenian Genocide and open the borders with Armenia and from this point of view the Armenian audience had definite sympathy with the Kurdish party,” he said. According to the Turkologist, later the Kurdish party may present serious threats to other Turkish parties. Touching upon the involvement of Armenian deputies in Turkish parliament, Mushegh Khudaverdyan highlighted that it was a really exceptional phenomenon. But at the same time Turkologist thinks that no positive change or favorable circumstance must be expected from that. “The most influential among those deputies is Turkish "Yeni Safak" newspaper’s columnist Markar Esayan, who has supported the ruling party’s policy for years. These Armenians involved in Turkish parliament can cause misunderstanding, as being Armenians they can present Turkey’s political interests and not to defend the interests of the Armenian side, as we must remember that first of all they are Turkish citizens and representatives of Turkish government,” notes the Turkologist.
