By a decision of the European Court of Human Rights, the Armenian government has allocated 160 million euros from the state budget to three families living in Yerevan’s Kentron district, who had been deprived of their homes under the guise of public interest. The sum was to be paid before May 13 and as the government has delayed the payment, the executive will also have to pay a fine in the amount of 150 euros, Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan said today. Since the issue was in the centre of public attention, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan instructed the relevant bodies to analyze the ECHR rulings in relation to Armenia. The study revealed that the ECHR has brought in 31verdicts against Armenia from 2010 to 2015 (May 1), obliging the Armenian government to pay a 555.000-euro compensation. Hovhannes Manukyan says during the reporting period, the ECHR passed 104 judgements against Azerbaijan, 179 against Moldova and 300 against Bulgaria. “We are in a relatively better situation as compared to these countries, but it does not mean that we should not take any measures to improve the situation,” the minister said. "Laws should be revised and judges should held accountable," eh added.
