Universities do not fulfill primier's directive
Former employees of Nairit chemical plant gathered at the intersection of Baghramyan and Demirtchyan streets this morning to meet Serzh Sargsyan and talk to him about their concerns. However, they did not have a chance to see Serzh Sargsyan after waiting outside the presidential palace for an hour. Sargsyan’s motorcade passed by the group without stopping. The laid-off employees of Nairit chemical plant said they would gather outside the Government building on Thursday ‘to remind the executive body of its promise.’ Earlier, Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan instructed Armenian universities to defer [for four months] the payment of tuition fees of the children of laid-off employees but the angered parents say the universities do not allow their children to participate in exams unless they pay tuition fees. Three of the workers' children have been warned by Yerevan State University they had to pay the tuition fees immediately, otherwise they would be expelled from YSU, Anush Harutyunyan, former spokesperson of the plant, said today.
