VivaCell-MTS suspends free Wi-Fi service in Yerevan Metro
VivaCell-MTS has suspended the provision of free Wi-Fi in Yerevan metro until the issue of unauthorized utilization of its Wi-Fi infrastructure by a third party is resolved, the company said in a press release. VivaCell-MTS has been providing free Wi-Fi in Yerevan metro since August 2012, in order to provide the passengers with means of communication and leisure while waiting for the train or on the move. Wi-Fi access has been provided on unconditional basis, for the whole period of staying in the metro, with no requirement to watch any content prior to connection or staying online. However, recently a third party, without a prior notice, contact or agreement with VivaCell-MTS, has made an intervention into the infrastructure by offering persons willing to access free Wi-Fi to watch ad spots as a precondition necessary for staying connected to Wi-Fi and was promoting the sales of advertising spots prior to accessing the free Wi-Fi. VivaCell-MTS considers this to be an unlawful intervention into its infrastructure and unauthorized utilization of its resources with the aim to generate revenues. Therefore, the company is determined to suspend the provision of free Wi-Fi until the unlawful intervention into its infrastructure is stopped.
