Ashot Voskanyan, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, does not want to open the brackets and speak a lot as he does not want to insult anyone. The Great Patriotic War with its horrors and atrocities is a pleasant memory for the 90-year-old man if compared with his present-day life. “At least, I was needed then. They took us to the red border in freight carriages, then made us walk to Germany but I was wounded near Berlin,” he recalls. The misfortunes started from Berlin. Ashot Voskanyan could stay at home as his three brothers were already on the battlefield. Before his departure, Ashot’s uncle advised him to have mercy on his mother. “I told him I would go sooner or later as I did not want to leave my friends alone. I burnt my military documents and went to the front.” All medals shining on Mr Voskanyan’s breast speak about his heroic acts. “This one was given by Stalin, the second one was sent from Moscow. This medal I received from Zyuganov. You can read the inscription here,” the veteran said proudly showing his medals and awards. Today the man is actively engaged in public life, participates in all May Day parades, visits the Spandarian center of the Communist Party and discusses with his associates Armenia’s future.  “Can we expect anything good from this government, tell me, please?” The veteran says before Tigran Sargsyan became Armenia’s Prime Minister he received a disability pension in the amount of 48 000 drams and additional 22 000 drams for transport. “In 2013, after I presented them my work history they cut the 22000 drams and reduced my pension by 11 000 drams. They said I received a lot of money.” Mr Voskanyan has promised him not to shave off his beard until the death of Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union. “That idiot [Gorbachev] destroyed the USSR, and I am not going to shave off my bread until he is dead.”
