Zhirayr Sefilyan is a political prisoner but he had ‘ill intentions,’ says Armenian lawmaker Rustam Gasparyan. He adds that Sefilyan was plotting ‘some disobedience’ on April 24. The lawmaker does not care that the Constitution does not envisage any liability for disobedience. “This is not a matter of the Constitution, this is a problem of the entire nation.” Lawmaker Vahram Baghdasaryan says the situation is different today. “If they want they will raise the question of ‘regime change,’ organize sit-ins, and do whatever they want,” he said. Armen Rustamyan from the ARF-Dashnaktsutyun was the first to urge the police to take appropriate action against the ‘Centennial without regime’ opposition movement. He says the jailed activists of the radical opposition group can be released now because ‘they no longer pose a threat to society.’ And who will bear responsibly for keeping the FP members behind bars for more than a month? Mr Rustamyan says it is within the jurisdictions of the European Court if, of course, it finds the detention illegal. The justice system is corrupt in a country that has at least one million poor people, says the leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK). “If it turns out that these people were arrested for their political views, there can be no two opinions about the judges who sent them to prison and they will be brought to justice for taking p[political decisions,” said Naira Zohrabyan. Our citizens also believe that the judges who issued arrest warrants for political figures will sooner or later appear in prison. Watch the video, to know our citizens' opinion on the arrest. Five members of  the Founding Parliament movement– Zhirayr Sefilyan, Pavel Manukyan, Garegik Chukaszyan, Varuzhan Avetisyan and Gevorg Safaryan -were arrested on April 7 on suspicion of planning to provoke ‘mass disturbances’ at the sites of genocide centenary commemorations on April 24. The Investigative Committee accused the FP members of urging supporters to disobey and even attack security forces on April 24. All were taken into two-month custody. Another Founding Parliament activist, Aram Hakobyan, was charged with keeping arms and ammunition, but was released on bail.
