Activists in Gyumri brought chess for Russian Prosecutor General (video)
A group of activists in Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri today staged a protest action outside the Russian Consulate, demanding the handover of Valery Permyakov, the Russian serviceman accused of murdering a seven-member family in Gyumri, to Armenian law enforcement agencies. The group had brought a chess [with chess pieces] to present it to Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika. “Please, accept this gift as a token of friendship between Armenia and Russia, fill your inactivity or respond to the letter of your Armenian counterpart. Any wrong step can strain the friendly relations between Armenia and Russia,” said activist Karen Petrosyan. A representative of the Russian Consulate agreed to forward the group’s letter to the addressee but refused to take the chess saying he has no right to take gifts. Three months have passed since the brutal murder of the Avetisyan family but Permyakov continues to be held in Gyumri by the Russian law enforcement agencies. “This is a matter of dignity,” said the activists. The group said they would wait until April 24 to know the answer of the Russian Prosecutor General. If the Russian official does not answer them, they will take other measures.
