No doctor visited FP member Pavel Manukyan
Pavel Manukyan, one of the members of the Founding Parliament (FP) opposition movement detained by law enforcement authorities on April 7 on charges of ‘planning mass disturbances’ during the upcoming ceremonies to mark the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, has been on hunger strike for four days now. However, no doctor has visited him during these four days, Armtimes.com reports. Manukyan’s lawyer Hayk Grigoryan told Armtimes.com that Manukyan is in normal health condition. Manukyan went on hunger strike immediately after detention as a sign of protest against what he called unlawful arrest. On Thursday, April 9, Manukyan was placed under two-month pretrial detention by a Yerevan court. Today, he was transferred to the Vardashen penitentiary. The Investigative Committee on Thursday levied criminal charges against three leaders of the Founding Parliament - Zhirayr Sefilyan, Garegin Chukaszyan and Varuzhan Avetisyan – and accused them of ‘preparing mass disturbances’ in Yerevan on April 24 – the day marking the centenary of the Armenian Genocide. The Investigative Committee levied the charges after interrogating the three men for several hours. Llater, it issued a statement saying that investigators confiscated a hand grenade, several knives and dozens of sticks and batons during searches carried out in their homes and the FP offices, which, the Investigative Committee claimed, were meant for inflicting corporal during nonstop protests to be staged by the FP starting April 24.
