Parliamentary factions join Naira Zohrabyan's initiative
On April 7, before the start of the National Assembly sitting, head of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction Naira Zohrabyan urged the legislature to express an official stance on the crimes committed against the Kurdish population by the an "Islamic state" organization. During a working meeting held at the National Assembly on April 8, NA political factions adopted a joint statement which reads in part, “The authorities in Armenia, the National Assembly and political factions keep the crimes against religious and ethnic minorities carried out by the self-proclaimed Islamic State in the centre of their attention. We are greatly concerned by the crimes and violence committed by the extremists against the Yazidi population of Iraq, in the result of which a considerable part of the Yazidi population is in urgent need of humanitarian aid. Armenian lawmakers and representatives in the UN and other international organizations have repeatedly raised our concerns over ISIL's impermissible actions and spoken about the need of humanitarian assistance. The NA factions share the pain of the Yazidi population of Iraq and assure them that we shall continue to raise the issue in all international organizations using all possible opportunities.” The statement was signed by the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), Armenian National Congress (HAK), Armenian Revolutionary Federation – Dashnaktsutyun, Country of Law Party (OEK) and Heritage.
