Opposition parties formally notify state agencies of their Feb 20 rally
The Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and the Heritage Party have informed the state agencies of their 'nationwide rally' to be held in Liberty Square in Yerevan at 4 p.m. February 20. “The three forces have formally notified the Yerevan Mayor’s Office of its plans to hold a rally in Liberty Square - the main traditional venue for political gatherings in Armenia,” said Vahe Enfiajyan, a lawmaker representing the BHK faction in the Armenian parliament. “It is time we put an end to the migration and poverty, everyday attempts to disappoint and frustrate our people and drive them into an abyss. We invite everyone to a national consultation in order to make everyone’s voice audible and discuss our joint actions with people. On February 20, people will announce their decision and we shall act accordingly. Let me reiterate once again that all our actions will be consistent with the Constitution and laws,” he said. The decision to hold a rally in Yerevan was taken yesterday following a government crackdown against BHK Leader Gagik Tsarukyan. Meeting late on Sunday, leaders of the three opposition parties - Gagik Tsarukyan, Levon-Ter-Petrosyan (HAK) and Raffi Hovannisian (Heritage) - said their joint rally will discuss the situation with citizens and make a decision for resolving the situation in the country.
