Once again, I want to convey our deepest condolences for the terrible crime in Armenia in which innocent people were killed in the city of Gyumri, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a news conference on January 21 calling on everyone not to politicize the tragedy. “We see that attempts are being made to politicize the situation. But neither Armenian nor Russian authorities stand behind these attempts. Some forces want to use this tragedy to gain geopolitical dividends. It's disgusting, it is unacceptable. The proud Armenian people do not deserve such an attitude,” Lavrov said, adding that they would do see to it that the criminal be punished in the strictest way. The Russian Foreign Minister added that the trial would be as transparent as possible and would be held in Armenia. Seryozha Avetisyan, his wife Hasmik, daughter Aida, son Armen, daughter-in-law Araksya, and two-year-old granddaughter Hasmik, were murdered in their home at around 6:00am on January 12.  Only a six-month-old boy survived, who was hospitalized with stab wounds. But the infant died in Yerevan’s Surb Astvatsatsin clinic on Monday a week after the brutal attack on his family members. Valery Permyakov, a Russian soldier stationed at Russian military base N102 in Gyumri was detained on the night of committing the deadly crime when attempting to cross Armenia’s border with Turkey. He has confessed to the murders.
