Nairit plant employees receive salary for December 2014
Employees of Nairit plant have received their salary for December 2014, said the plant’s spokesperson Anush Harutyunyan. She says the employees are not going to discontinue the protests. About 1700 employees of the plant will join the ranks of the unemployed starting February 6 since the plant is not going to renew its contracts with them. The employees demand that the plant pay their unpaid salaries for 18-24 months by then. On Thursday, January 22, they will gather outside the presidential palace in fresh protest rally. Nairit Plant CJSC, which produces chloroprene rubber and was considered a giant of its kind during the Soviet era, hasn’t been operating since 2010. Only 500 of its 2500 employees work in the plant today, others are on compulsory layoff. The plant was founded in 1940. Nairit owes 5 milliard 768 million drams to its employees.
