Candidate of judge returned the ticket (video)
Advocate Ara Ghazaryan hurried to return the airplane ticket. He won’t leave for Strasbourg on 15th of January, as he isn’t a candidate of judge of European Court on Human Rights any more. Serzh Sargsyan has decided to hold a new contest in order to decide the Armenian representative to the European Court. “Why were the three candidates informed on December 20 that they were invited to an interview and that they would soon receive the invitation by the PACE Secretary General and why do we learn that another decision was made two days after that letter?,”- Ara Ghazaryan said to “A1+”. The contest for a candidate of the judge of European Court was held in October. Armen Harutyunyan, Ara Ghazaryan and Nelik Harutyunyan got the highest points. Serzh Sargsyan confirmed the list and it must have been sent to the PACE for affirmation, but it wasn’t done. This contest wasn’t held without fuss. From the beginning “Europe of Law” NGO announced about procedural violations. “It proves that the observation by our organization had its decisive influence,”- says NGO President Lusine Hakobyan. In the decree of Serzh Sargsyan the cancellation of the list is conditioned by the opinion of advisory group according to which the female candidate does not meet the criteria to be a legist. And she was included in the list in order to ensure the principle of gender representation: “None of the three candidates met the criteria to be a competent legist,”- she said.
