Investigation Committee reveals more details on murder of Gyumri family

On January 12, Investigation Committee of Armenia received a report that six people had been found dead in a house in Armenia’s second largest city of Gyumri in the morning. A task group was sent to the scene shortly afterwards to find the victims, all of them members of the Avetisyan family, killed in their home in yet unknown circumstances. The murdered people have been identified as Seryezha Avetisyan, Hasmik Avetisyan, Aida Avetisyan, Armen Avetisyan, Araksya Poghosyan and and Hasmik Avetisyan (two years old). Another member of the family, a six-month-old baby, is the only survivor of the massacre who is now in hospital in a critical condition. The police have found 5.45 mm caliber shells, bullets, military boots with the name of Russian serviceman Valery Permyakov who is suspected of the unprecedented shooting spree. Permyakov deserted his army unit stationed in Gyumri before killing the Avetisyan family. Measures are being taken to find Permyakov. A criminal case has been filed in connection with the appalling crime, the Investigation Committee reports.
