Opinion: Terrorism does not threaten Armenia (video)
Murder is a humanitarian catastrophe, Deputy Chairperson of the Free Democrats party, Anush Sedrakyan said on Monday speaking about the January 7 terrorist attack at the Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris. The attack was carried out after the magazine had reprinted caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed. Many Muslims regard the depiction of the Prophet Mohammed as blasphemous, and the images in question had already sparked violent protests worldwide. More than 17 people dead in the recent terrorist attacks in France. “France is known to be a cradle of freedom and the attack on that cradle shatters the global tranquility,” said Anush Sedrakyan. “This is also a blow to Europe. They are attempting to smear Europe’s image and present it as a world full of dangers and problems.” Tevan Poghosyan, a lawmaker of the opposition Heritage faction, says the motive behind the killings was not the satirical cartoon of Prophet Mohammed since France is a country where you can sue anyone and defend your rights in court. “The events in France were a clear message by the ISIS. They wanted to warn everyone that they are not centered only in the Middle East and will not let world leaders have a quite life,” said Mr Poghosyan. Speaking about Armenia, Anush Sedrakyan and Tevan Poghosyan said terrorism does not threaten Armenia where editorial offices are closed, journalists are fired, cars are burnt down for publishing undesirable articles.
