Red Bridge: When Armenians and Azerbaijanis are unable to restrain their laughter... (video)
When there is a deep hatred and there is not love, they can say whatever they want. Studies show that even the slightest opportunity becomes a big reason for Azerbaijanis and Armenians to blame each other. Àrif Aliyev, Chairman of the “Yeni Nesil” (New Generation) Union of Journalists, says when Azerbaijanis are called ‘Azeris’ by the English, they are not offended, but as soon as they read the word in Armenian press, they get extremely envious. Azerbaijani press, in turn, offends Armenians at the earliest opportunity. Sometimes the hostile attitude reaches the height of absurdity. For example, when an Azerbaijani was arrested in Moscow for drug trafficking and was claimed to be a member of KVN "Guys from Baku” (Club of the Funny and Inventive), the captain of the team said the drug dealer was not related with the club, and blamed Armenians for distorting the facts. A monitoring entitled “Hate Speech in the Media of South Caucasus” was conducted in the South Caucasus to examine the linguistic features of hate speech in the South Caucasian media and to elaborate recommendations which could help to decrease presence of hate speech in media, as well as the number of conflict-invoking materials on domestic and international politics, ethnic, religious, gender and minority issues. The results showed that the attitude is more hostile in Azerbaijan. To know more details on the topic watch the program Red Bridge at 6.00 p.m.
