Ex-Official sentenced to 12 years in prison
The former head of Armenia’s Social Welfare Service, Vazgen Khachikyan, today was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Khachikyan was arrested in September 2012 for embezzling pensions and he was accused of official forgery, swindling and embezzlement. Among the people interrogated in the process are employees of the Service’s divisions and pensioners. Many others have been involved in the case as defendants. The only female defendant in the case, Hranush Danielyan, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. The court also ruled that Khachikyan and the other 12 defendants shall pay AMD 261 115 562 to the state.
