Armenian lawmaker Manvel Grigoryan cannot assess the incomprehensible devaluation of the Armenian currency and the ensuing rise in prices: he is not a banker. “Go away! Do your business! You are an idle person,” he said. Lawmaker Samvel Alexanyan is not panicked about the recent price hike. He even confesses that he is not a lawmaker as such. “There are 131 lawmakers in the National Assembly. What do you want from me? Go and talk to them,” he said. The other Republican MPs admit that the rise in prices of essential commodities has caused panic among citizens. Levon Martirosyan says sellers and manufacturers might make use of the panic and review the price policy. “People live in bad conditions today,” says Republican Ruben Hovsepyan, the brother of former Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan. However, he hurries to comfort people saying the increased prices will start dropping soon.  “After we join the Customs Union, many products will become cheaper,” he said. Speaker of the Armenian Parliament says the increase in prices is ungrounded.  “It has become a tradition in Armenia to increase prices before New Year. Prices go down in the world on New Year’s Eve as the turnover increases, while in Armenia prices always shoot up.” Republican lawmakers are concerned about the rise in prices and say their rating depends on it. They make analyses and predictions but cannot ‘feed people with their ideas.’
